The 2024 Volvo XC60 is a popular premium compact SUV that has a lot to offer in terms of comfort, safety, technology, and performance, among other attributes. Here is how it compares to the 2024 Audi Q5, one of its direct competitors.
More standard power and better fuel economy
While Audi is usually known for its high-performance engines, the 2024 Volvo XC60 actually has more standard power than the Q5. Indeed, both models are powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission in the XC60 and a 7-speed dual-clutch unit in the Q5. In the case of the Volvo, this standard powertrain is also equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that helps it generate 247 horsepower and a combined fuel consumption of only 8.4 L/100 km. On the other hand, the Audi Q5 comes standard with only 201 horsepower and a fuel consumption of 9.2 L/100 km.
A more advanced plug-in hybrid option
Staying under the hood a little longer, we can see that the 2024 Volvo XC60 also benefits from a more powerful and more efficient available plug-in hybrid system than the Audi Q5. Indeed, the XC60 Recharge generates 455 horsepower, which makes it significantly more powerful than the standard XC60 and even than the Q5 TFSI e PHEV, with 362 horsepower. In addition, the more advanced powertrain of the XC60 makes it possible to drive up to 58 kilometres on electric power alone, thus reducing fuel consumption and polluting emissions. In comparison, the hybrid Q5 can only drive 39 kilometres before the gasoline engine has to kick in.
More comfortable for everyone
The 2024 Volvo XC60 is more comfortable than the Audi Q5 thanks to its ergonomic seat design, softer suspension, and more generous interior space. Starting with the seats, Volvo has long been known to make some of the most comfortable automotive seating in the industry by providing the right amount of padding with the necessary support to make long trips comfortable and relaxing. While the 2024 Audi Q5 is not uncomfortable, its seats and suspension tuning follow German traditions by being much firmer than some buyers might be used to. In addition, the 2024 Volvo XC60 benefits from more interior space than the Q5 in several of the most important measurements for passenger comfort such as legroom and shoulder room.
More modern technologies
The 2024 Volvo XC60 offers more modern technology features than the 2024 Audi Q5, notably in terms of infotainment. Indeed, the Volvo comes standard with the very advanced Google Built-in infotainment system that looks and behaves more like a smartphone than an automotive system. This impression is reinforced by the presence of all of the Google-based features Android Users are familiar with, such as Google Maps, the Google Assistant voice control system, and the Google Play Store, which can be used to add a number of apps directly to the vehicle’s screen.
