Volvo introduced its first Cross Country model in 1997. The idea was simple: take a comfortable Volvo, raise it, protect it, and give it the traction to keep going when the pavement ends or the weather turns. Volvo designed these cars to cope with the demanding Scandinavian climate, from muddy tracks and ankle-deep snow to long highway drives.
The Cross Country name now appears on three very different vehicles: a small electric SUV, a gas-powered wagon, and a mid-size electric SUV. Each one gets the same core treatment, applied in its own way. Here is what Cross Country adds to the EX30, the V60, and the EX60.

The Cross Country Formula
Three things define every Cross Country model:
The look follows the function. Cross Country models carry a bolder, more rugged design that sets them apart from the rest of the Volvo range.
EX30 Cross Country: Small, Electric, and Ready for Rough Roads
The EX30 Cross Country takes Volvo's smallest SUV and prepares it for life outside the city. Volvo raised the car higher off the ground than the standard EX30 to help it handle rough terrain. Front and rear skid plates, wheel arch extensions, a Cross Country chassis, and 19-inch wheels complete the hardware.
All-wheel drive is standard, powered by two electric motors that produce 422 hp. The run from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.7 seconds. A 69 kWh battery provides up to 365 km of range, and a DC fast charge from 10 to 80 per cent takes 28 minutes at 153 kW.
The Cross Country treatment also raises what this small SUV can pull. Maximum trailer weight is 1,600 kg (3,527 lbs), compared with 907 kg (2,000 lbs) for the EX30 Twin Motor Performance. Hill Descent Control and a heat pump are both standard, and the dark front shield features artwork of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden.
V60 Cross Country: The Wagon Built for Any Road
The V60 Cross Country is the classic expression of the idea: a roomy wagon with the stance and traction of an SUV. Ground clearance is 197 mm. All-wheel drive, Off Road mode, and Hill Descent Control work together to help optimize traction and grip.
Power comes from a 2.0 L 4-cylinder turbocharged mild hybrid engine with 247 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It reaches 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and combined fuel consumption is rated at 8.9 L/100 km. The mild hybrid system recovers braking energy and stores it in a 48V battery, with no plug required.
Practicality is the V60 Cross Country's other strength. The cargo area holds 519 L with the rear seats up and as much as 1,431 L with them folded. Towing capacity is 900 kg (1,984 lbs).
EX60 Cross Country: The Newest Member of the Family
Volvo revealed the EX60 Cross Country on January 21, 2026, alongside the all-electric EX60. Volvo will announce Canadian launch timing at a later date.
When it arrives, the EX60 Cross Country will sit 20 mm higher off the ground than the EX60. Its air suspension will let drivers add another 20 mm of ride height when needed. The same system will be able to lower the car at highway speeds, which improves efficiency, stability, and aerodynamics.
The design will set it apart too. Frost Green, a colour inspired by Scandinavian nature, will be exclusive to this model. Brushed stainless steel skid plates at the front and back, wider wheel arches, exclusive Cross Country wheels, and Cross Country branding on the bumpers and D-pillar will complete the look.
Which Cross Country Model Is Right for You?
Choose the EX30 Cross Country if you want a compact electric SUV with 422 hp, standard all-wheel drive, and the towing strength to bring a trailer along. It is the smallest of the three and reaches 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.
Choose the V60 Cross Country if you want wagon space and a gas engine for long-distance trips. Its 1,431 L of maximum cargo room and 197 mm of ground clearance make it a natural fit for cottage roads and ski weekends.
Keep an eye on the EX60 Cross Country if you want a larger electric SUV with adjustable air suspension and a design of its own.
