Volvo Car Canada has announced an intriguing addition to its 2024 vehicle range: the XC60 Black Edition. This new variant will be an integral part of Volvo's award-winning XC60 series, which has held a significant role in the brand's lineup for over 15 years. Notably, the XC60 was honored as the 2018 World Car of the Year, earning its place among the favorites for those who admire Scandinavian understated luxury.
The Exterior and Interior Design
The XC60 Black Edition will exclusively feature the top-spec Ultimate equipment level. With its Onyx Black exterior, the variant will offer unique aesthetic elements including a glossy black iron mark logo, 21-inch 5-Double Spoke High Gloss Black Alloy wheels, and a Volvo spread word mark, enhancing the XC60's already sporty and elegant profile.
Inside, the Black Edition provides an equally eye-catching charcoal interior accented by a black headliner. Customers can opt for either Charcoal Ventilated Nappa Leather or a blend of Nappa Leather, Leatherette, and Textile Sport Seats. The interior ambiance is further refined by a 12.3-inch Digital Driver Display with Google built-in, metal mesh aluminum decor, and a crystal gear shift knob by Orrefors.
Powertrain Options
Fulfilling Volvo's commitment to sustainability, the XC60 Black Edition comes with two hybrid powertrain options. The XC60 Recharge Black Edition T8 features a plug-in hybrid system, coupling a 312 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 143 hp electric motor. An 18.8 kWh high-voltage battery enables up to 58 kilometers of fully electric range in Pure mode.
Alternatively, customers can opt for the XC60 B5 AWD Black Edition, which incorporates Volvo’s mild hybrid technology. It utilizes an internal combustion engine in tandem with an electric integrated starter generator, which improves fuel economy and reduces CO2 emissions, all without the necessity of plugging in.
Price and Availability
Prospective buyers can expect deliveries to start in early 2024. The starting MSRP for the XC60 B5 AWD Ultimate Black Edition stands at $68,950, while the T8 Recharge Ultimate Black Edition is priced at $83,950.
The Broader 2024 Volvo Lineup
Beyond the XC60, Volvo Car Canada’s 2024 lineup includes advanced powertrain options for its fully electric C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge models, along with a new roster of rear-wheel drive options. Furthermore, Volvo is preparing to introduce two all-new, fully electric SUVs, the EX90 and EX30, as it progresses towards becoming a fully electric car company by 2030 and aims for carbon neutrality by 2040.
With this latest addition of the XC60 Black Edition, Volvo Car Canada continues to offer Canadians a diverse and innovative range of vehicles, further solidifying its position in the luxury SUV market.
