Volvo has choosen the 2024 Canadian International AutoShow, held at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre, to unveil the new EX90 luxury electric SUV for the first time in Canada.
With its advanced powertrain, technologies, and its new design language, the EX90 marks a new chapter in the history of Volvo, one that will see it transform to an electric-only automaker by the end of the decade.
A new era of Volvo design
After the entire design language of Volvo cars was revolutionized with the introduction of the XC90 in 2015, the new 2024 EX90 brings a new generation of the Volvo look. This new appearance is characterised by more modern elements, such as the pixel Thor’s hammer headlamps, the filled-in grille panel, and the separate taillamp modules, but also a continuation of the broad theme that has made current Volvo models so attractive, such as clean, crisp body lines and an understated elegance. The EX90 is thus resolutely modern, but it still gives off the same impression of safety, solidity, and refinement as the current generation of Volvo cars does. Since it is the first of this new generation of vehicles to be launched, the EX90 gets to pioneer some features that have already been transferred to the upcoming EX30 subcompact SUV.
A modern and minimalist interior
Volvo has decided to push the concept of Scandinavian minimalism even further in the interior of its new models, beginning with the 2024 EX90. This is exemplified by an almost complete lack of physical controls and the revised integration of the two screens present on the dashboard, making them look more like advanced mobile devices than purpose-built automotive components. This gives the interior of the EX90 a fresh new look that stands out from less modern competitors as well as the current generation of Volvo vehicles. The interior of the EX90 also distinguishes itself with the use of unique materials, such as illuminated wood appliqués and available wool blend seat upholstery.
The safest Volvo ever
Of course, an entirely new generation of models at Volvo means significant advances in terms of safety, and the 2024 EX90 doesn’t make exception. Indeed, this seven-seater SUV becomes the safest Volvo model ever offered thanks to advancements such as the inclusion of a Lidar sensor that is able to map the entire area around the vehicle in order to better detect potential threats and their solutions. The EX90 also features the latest evolution of each existing Volvo safety technology, making every drive safer and more convenient.
Advanced and capable powertrains
The 2024 Volvo EX90 also comes with the latest in terms of electric powertrains at Volvo. This means that the EX90 is built on a dedicated platform that has been engineered from the very start with electric vehicles as its single goal, thus eliminating the inherent compromises that come with platforms made to accept both EV and gasoline systems. The EX90 can achieve a range of up to 480 kilometres on a full charge, and an empty battery can be filled up quickly at a lever-3 fast-charger, going from 10 to 80% in as little as 30 minutes.
