The Volvo XC40 is one of the most interesting subcompact SUVs on the market with its impressive styling, surprising versatility, powerful engine and 100% electrified version.
There are several versions of the Volvo XC40 as well, resulting in a model that fully meets our needs. One of the most popular models in the XC40 lineup is without a doubt the Volvo XC40 R-Design.
What is R-Design?
The letter R has long had a special meaning within the Volvo range. The letter referred to the brand's performance models in the 2000s, specifically the Volvo S60 R and Volvo V60 R. Today, R-Design refers to the sportier versions of various Volvo models. Whether it's their style or their exclusive equipment, Volvo R-Design models like the XC40 R-Design stand out in traffic and on the road.
R-Design models are entitled to exclusive features not found on other XC40 models, including larger wheels with a sportier style. In addition, the chassis has been improved to deliver more dynamic performance and better handling. You also get more exclusive touches inside.
Ultimately, the Volvo XC40 R-Design has more personality and a style that stands out even more against the competition.
Top level performance
Under the hood, the Volvo XC40 R-Design comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter T5 four-cylinder engine that develops 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque - more horsepower and torque than the BMW X1, the Mercedes -Benz GLA, Audi Q3, Lexus UX and Cadillac XT4. In other words, the Volvo XC40 R-Design offers better performance than its direct rivals in addition to offering more interior space with 1,337 liters of total space.
