The Volvo XC90 is by far the most luxurious and the most efficient SUV in its class. It uses the best technologies to strike a perfect balance between performance and efficiency, but it also provides the driver and passengers with a unique, Scandinavian-inspired experience on board.
Here, we compare the 2002 Volvo XC90 with the 2022 Acura MDX.
The 2022 Volvo XC90 offers more comfort and flexibility
The XC90 stands out from the pack with unique styling inside and out. With a towing capacity of 2,268 kg, the XC90 makes it easier to bring your boat, ATV or other leisure equipment along on your family adventure. The MDX has a standard towing capacity of only 1,360.8 kg and needs an upgrade to rival the XC90’s rating.
The XC90 features state-of-the art infotainment technologies that are both intuitive and easy to access. These are complemented by superior textures and materials gathered to create a unique experience on every trip. The XC90 also has several advanced driver assistance features like the Pilot Assist, which provides the driver with steering assistance paired with advanced adaptive cruise control to steer and accelerate almost autonomously.
The 2022 Volvo XC90 offers superior efficiency
Under the hood of the XC90, you will find a series of powerful powertrains. The T5 engine generates 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This unit has amazing consumption ratings of 11.5 / 8.4 L/100 km (city/highway).
The XC90's T6 powertrain is also available. It delivers 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It is more powerful than the MDX’s standard engine, but also has a combined fuel consumption rating of 10.5 L/100 km, which is lower than the MDX's combined rating of 11.2 L/100 km.
The hybrid T8 powertrain system is also featured in the XC90. It outputs 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. It remains very efficient, with better consumption than the MDX’s standard engine thanks to ratings of 9.1/8.4 L/100 km (city/highway).
The 2022 Acura MDX offers a 3.5-litre V6 which generates 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, which is less than the XC90's T6- and T8-equipped models. A Type S model is expected to make more power, but it will never attain the XC90’s performance and efficiency with only 355 horsepower.
