The 2021 Volvo XC60 operates in what is perhaps the most competitive segment in the automotive industry. The compact luxury SUV segment is indeed packed with quality offerings from a range of automakers including Audi with the 2021 Audi Q5. The XC60 relies on its design, performance, versatility and comfort to stand out, promising to offer consumers a more enjoyable experience on the road and the features they want.

Under the hood, the 2021 Volvo XC60 offers a range of powerful engines including the base T5 engine which delivers 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The 2021 Audi Q5 also has a turbocharged four-cylinder that on paper has a bit more power than the XC60, but both SUVs reach 100 km/h in about 6.3 seconds.
The 2021 Volvo XC60 T6 features a powerful turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This makes the T6 about as fast as the most powerful 2021 Audi Q5, the SQ5 version, but the T6 is multiple thousands of dollars less.
The XC60 is also offered with an efficient and very powerful T8 plug-in hybrid engine that delivers 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque while also offering almost 30 kilometres of pure electric driving range. The Q5 also has a PHEV version, but power is capped at 362 horsepower.
Because this is such a competitive segment, you won’t find any glaring differences when comparing specs. You have to dig deeper and in the case of the 2021 Volvo XC60, it’s on the road that you notice the differences. The XC60 is quieter than the Q5 and more refined overall, and it feels more luxurious.
