The luxury small sport utility vehicle segment has grown tremendously in recent years and many models are now available to consumers. Two of these models, the Volvo XC40 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA, are aimed at a consumer who wants luxury and sophistication above all else, but in a format suited to the city and an active lifestyle.
Both the 2021 Volvo XC40 and the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA have a lot to offer, but by looking at what each offers, we realize that the XC40 gives more for less. Let's take a closer look.
More accessible luxury with the 2021 Volvo XC40
The first thing you notice that sets the 2021 Volvo XC40 apart from the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA is the entry price. Offered starting at $ 39,950, the Volvo XC40 is about $ 3,000 less than the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA.
On the one hand there is the starting price, but on the other there is what each model offers for the same price. For example, the Volvo XC40 T5 starting at $ 42,800 is priced roughly equal to the Mercedes-Benz GLA, but it has a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that delivers 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The GLA meanwhile offers a four-cylinder turbo engine too, but only 221 horsepower.
We should also mention in passing that the Volvo XC40 2021 range this year offers a fully electric version called Recharge. The latter offers a 78-kWh battery that delivers 320 kilometers of range and 400 horsepower for a 0-100 km/h time of less than 5.0 seconds. In short, nothing in the GLA range comes close.
There is also an impressive refinement aboard the XC40, starting with the central 9-inch screen. The interior of the GLA is much more modest in comparison. Space for rear passengers is also improved in the XC40, which notably has more headroom.
The 2021 Volvo XC40 is a unique model on the market for customers who like to be different without compromising on luxury and comfort. Come and try it out today!
